Wave Behavior

by Guy Meador

Found this through my reading of the Technician study materials. It is an old film from the 1950s created by Bell Labs to explore and demonstrate some of the important characteristics of the behavior of waves in nature.

The video begins with a modern-day helpful introduction by George Kupczak of the AT&T Archives and History Center to put the film in context.

The film features a fascinating device, invented by the instructor, John N. Shive, that demonstrates mechanical wave propogation in an ingenious way.

Evidently, this film was used quite a bit in college physics courses. I don't remember this film being used in any of the physics courses I took at Clemson back in the 1980s, but it is a fascinating watch.

Thank you to AT&T for making this available to everyone!

Enjoy.
